Job Summary

To be the first point of contact for all patient enquires, and to treat patients at all times with warmth, dignity, respect and efficiency telephone.

Main Duties

  • To work in the reception area welcoming patients to the practice, treating them courteously, with dignity and respect at all times.
  • To enable patients to access health care, directing them to appointments with appropriate members of the practice team, or outside services
  • Booking, changing and cancelling appointments in person or over the telephone
  • Answering patient’s general queries
  • Taking telephone calls and messages, liaising with clinical and administrative staff, hospitals etc
  • Receiving and accurately recording requests for home visits
  • Tidying waiting and reception areas before and after surgery
  • Maintaining reception standards
  • Other duties relevant to reception as required

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent communications skills
  • Accuracy in keyboard and computer skills
  • Working knowledge of Emis, Docman and AccuRx
  • Previous experience working as a receptionist in a GP surgery or Hillingdon confed
