Mobile X-ray service expanded
A new mobile X-ray service that brings diagnostic imaging directly to patients in their homes, care homes and community settings is being rolled out across Hillingdon following the success of a six-month pilot programme.
Delivered by HomeMed Healthcare in partnership with The Confederation, Hillingdon CIC, and commissioned through Hillingdon Health and Care Partners, the service supports the NHS ambition to provide more care closer to home.
Since launching in November 2025, the service has enabled hundreds of vulnerable residents to access rapid diagnostic imaging without the need for hospital visits. It is designed to support people who are housebound, frail, living in care homes or have learning disabilities.
The service helps clinicians make faster decisions while reducing avoidable ambulance journeys, A&E attendances, outpatient appointments and hospital admissions.
Radiographers carry out X-rays in patients’ homes and care settings, with consultant radiologist reports typically available within hours, enabling quicker diagnosis and treatment.
David Ezra, CEO of HomeMed Healthcare, said:
"This expansion reflects a new approach to delivering diagnostics for vulnerable patients. By bringing high-quality imaging directly to people where they live, we can reduce stress, improve outcomes and help relieve pressure on hospitals."
A spokesperson for The Confederation, Hillingdon CIC, added:
"The pilot demonstrated the value of delivering diagnostics closer to home. We are delighted to continue working with HomeMed Healthcare to provide a service that improves patient experience while supporting the wider health and care system."
The expanded service will continue to support residents in private homes, residential and nursing care homes, and community settings across the borough.
