What are the Warfarin Clinics?

Some patients need to take Warfarin for certain medical conditions, which essentially acts as a blood thinner.

Regular testing is required for patients taking Warfarin in order to ensure that the medication is working.

In the clinic a blood test is done by taking a finger prick sample.

The sample is analysed in a machine to give a result. This will guide the dose of Warfarin to be taken, and when the next appointment should be made.

Who is this for?

Patients who were managed on their Warfarin by Hillingdon Hospital Anticoagulation Clinic and are deemed stable will be referred to our clinic.

Where?

These clinics currently take place from Civic Centre.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access the service?

Once you are stable on your Warfarin medication you will be referred to the community service by the hospital. They will let you know when they have done this.

How long will it be until my first appointment?

The hospital will refer 6 weeks before your next appointment is due. We will then send you a text message confirming your appointment with us.

What if I don't have a mobile phone?

If your details have been successfully passed on to us in the referral, we can contact you by email or on your landline.

If we can’t get in touch with you we will let the hospital know.

I heard eating certain foods can impact my readings?

You should already have been made aware of this by the hospital service, but we can also discuss this at your appointments. As a general rule, try not to significantly change your diet for example when you are on holiday.
