Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our clinical team within a busy General Practice. This is a part-time position working Mondays and Thursdays, 9:00am to 4:00pm.

The post holder will support the nursing and GP team in delivering high-quality, safe, and effective patient care, with a focus on health promotion, chronic disease management, and preventative care.

Main Duties of the Job

The Healthcare Assistant will work under the supervision of the Practice Nurse and GPs to provide a range of clinical and supportive duties, including:

  • Undertaking health checks and recording observations (e.g. blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight, BMI)
  • Performing venepuncture, ECGs, urinalysis, and wound care (training can be provided where required)
  • Supporting patients with chronic disease management, including diabetes and hypertension
  • Assisting in the delivery of NHS Health Checks and seasonal vaccination programmes (e.g. flu)
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records using EMIS clinical system
  • Supporting clinicians in delivering person-centred care
  • Promoting health education and healthy lifestyle choices

Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Ensure accurate documentation of all patient interactions
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards
  • Ensure clinical rooms and equipment are clean, safe, and well-stocked
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with GDPR and NHS policies

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic IT skills and confidence using clinical systems
  • Caring, professional, and flexible approach
  • Phlebotomy experience

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in General Practice
  • ECG experience
  • Knowledge of EMIS clinical system

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent experience)
  • Care Certificate
  • Phlebotomy certificate (up to date)
